Apple’s new product launch did not come to us as a surprise as the much talked about rumors became true, Apple released its brand new iPhone SE.
It seems that the 4 inch phones are still a fad, as Apple reportedly sold 30 million iPhones with 4 inch screens in 2015. Some companies don’t even manage to sell 30 million of their flag ship devices, and here Apple manages to sell 30 million and that of their 4 inch screen models.
Apple has certainly played their cards right by identifying the demand in the market and taking advantage of it. For those of you who don’t know, the iPhone SE is basically the build of the iPhone 5S, but with the power of the iPhone 6S.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the best and worst things about the new iPhone SE:
First of all, let’s look at the size factor. The dimensions (LxWxT) are 123.8×58.6×7.5 mm which makes it very similar to the iPhone 5S. It also weighs in about 113 grams, which makes it very lightweight and portable as well.
We think that by keeping the dimensions similar to the iPhone 5S, Apple has saved a ton of R&D as well as production costs.
The new 12 MP iSight Camera is pretty much the same as the camera in the iPhone 6S. Some of the features of the primary camera include Panorama up to 63GB, Auto HDR, Focus Pixels, Exposure Control, True Tone Flash, Slow Motion and Time Lapse. The new camera is also capable of recording 4K video. The cool part about the primary camera is that it allows you to capture live photos, letting your still photos come to life.
The secondary camera is a front facing face time HD camera is capable of retina flash. This means that selfies taken in low light areas can naturally adjust the colors to brighten the image by almost 3 times.
Apple claims that the iPhone SE is the most powerful 4 inch phone ever, that lets you play the most graphic intensive games smoothly. This is only possible by the new 64 bit A9 processing chip, with an embedded M9 motion coprocessor. To give a comparison, the iPhone SE has the same processing and graphic performance as the iPhone 6S. This is almost twice the speed of the iPhone 5S.
The M9 motion coprocessor remains always one. Do need to worry much, as it does not consume much battery, but it does allow you to experience a whole new level of features. Like the “Hey Siri” feature, which lets users interact with Siri hands free by literally just saying “Hey Siri.”
For those still worrying about the battery life, Apple claims that the iPhone SE can deliver 50 hours of Audio, or 13 hours of Video, and Wifi browsing.
We were really looking forward to a fresh young iPhone, but the design was a bit disappointing. Apple could have attracted a lot more buyers by simply improving the design, or at least by not making it so similar to the iPhone 5S.
