The Moto 360 2nd gen is the upgraded version of the Moto 360, and is a giant leap forward in the smart watch industry. Believe it or not, but it was the round shape of the Moto 360 that had made it such a success and now the 2nd gen version will continue the legacy.
Motorola boasts of the 2nd gen’s 1.37 inch IPS display with 263 ppi density. The other, larger variant of the smart watch has a 1.56 inch display, but a 233 ppi density. The new Moto 360 comes with Android Wear 5.1.1 out of the box, and lets you navigate flawlessly between your notifications. We really liked the screen as it looks super sharp and clear, even when outside in the sunlight. It seems Motorola has also improved on the responsiveness of the new Moto 360 as it responds to the wrist flick very accurately.
The smart watch houses a quad core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processer which ensures lag free and fluidic performance. The watch also comes with 512 Gb RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, 4GB of internal storage, and is Wifi enabled. As far as battery is concerned the watch uses inductive charging and the 42mm variant has a 300 mAh battery that fully charges within two hours, while the 46mm variant has a 400mAh battery. We were able to test out the 42mm variant and found that battery lasts a full day with the ambient mode on. The Moto 360 2nd Gen is IP67 water resistant, but dials with leather variants will have to be careful around water.
Design and Looks
In terms of variety, the new Moto 360 comes out in five different variants, four of which are designed for men, and one is for women. The style and colour of the strap helps in creating the variety in the straps as Motorola has released a brown, black, and blush leather straps along with a metal one. Motorola has also managed to include a decent collection of watch faces, as well as a custom watch face designer that enables the user to put a picture in the background.
One small issue with the design of the dial was that the makers still kept the “flat tire” or black bar at the bottom of the screen. Apparently the black bar houses an ambient light sensor that controls the auto brightness feature. Apart from the black bar issue, the Moto 360 2nd gen is a one of a kind smart watch.
Let’s look at the price tag now, as the starting price for the Moto 360 2nd gen is $300 USD or about INR 20,000. Seeing that the new Moto 360 is the best Android smart watch in the market right now, this is certainly a must have device.
